Abstract

In addition to the pronounced antibacterial effect, vitamin D is also characterized by antiviral action. By increasing the
expression of interferon-alpha, cathelecidin, defensin and antiviral miRNA, vitamin D activates various mechanisms of innate
antiviral immunity. The results of basic and clinical studies show the need to compensate for vitamin D deficiency for successful
treatment of viral hepatitis, respiratory infections and human papillomavirus (HPV). The antiviral effects of vitamin D are also
important for increasing the effectiveness of the prevention and treatment of neoplastic diseases of the cervix uteri.
